The track was written and produced by the duo Nasri and Adam Messinger (aka The Messengers). It was released on 17 October, 2011. It sold 164,000 the first week according to Nielsen SoundScan, placing it at No. 5 on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs chart. As of December 25, 2011, SoundScan estimated total sales of the digital track at 639,000 downloads, which is the most a Christmas/holiday digital song has ever sold in a calendar year. "Mistletoe" is also fifth on the list of all-time best-selling Christmas/holiday digital singles in SoundScan history.
